Hairy-Legged Lynx Spider (Oxyopes quadrifasciatus) - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Spidey spidey,
I hope you're a boy,
Cos it's not very girly,
To have legs so hairy,
It makes you wanna cry.

This little spider was resting on a leaf in our garden one fine morning. I've never seen a spider with legs so hairy before... (long hair at that as well). If I'm not mistaken, this spider is from the Oxyopidae family, from the Oxyopes species. It is known as Oxyopes quadritasciatus or the Lynx spider. This is a male species, since it has enlarged pedipalps (the boxing-glove like things) for transferring sperm to the female seminal receptacles during mating.  They have very long, translucent legs with spines and orange-brown stripes on their body. The name "lynx" is derived from the way they hunt ie. slowly approaching their prey and suddenly jumping on it.

  3. You are right that this is a Lynx spider and also a male but...
Oxyopes quadritasciatus is only endemic to Australia.
It is not found in Malaysia.
