Wild plant seedlings & spider web - KL, Malaysia

Usually around this time of the year, it would be very very hot with no rain in sight. However, this year proved to be slightly different and we have had quite many rain showers during the day and night.

Can you see the fine spider web (thread)?

Not seeing double - Spider Spider - KL, Malaysia

I think it's quite rare to find two spiders of different species on the same spider web. We found these two in our garden a few days ago (the spider web is the home of the bigger spider since a day later, only the big one remained).

The larger spider had a yellow and black striped body, as well as legs. It looks pretty cool. Sometimes, some parts of its body would turn red when it flexes. The smaller spider is a black one with hairy legs.

So dear reader, tell me have you ever seen two spiders on a web together?

Can you see a small insect in the mouth of the larger spider? Yup, he was having his dinner!

My daughter was very curious! She also wanted to see the two spiders;)

A very cool looking spider web - KL, Malaysia

Found this really cool looking spider web the other day in our garden... the thick white thread around the centre of the web looked like a pair of spectacles... does anyone have any idea what it is?

The amazing spider and its web - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Spider webs are one of the most difficult things to photograph (well, with a compact cam at least). You need to get the right angle, right lighting in order to capture the web since it is so fine. But we did it last week (hooray!) - we must have gotten lucky. ;)

Love how intricate the web looks and the spider looks so cool with its super long legs too.

It's got a cool looking body too

Brown spider with hairy, translucent legs - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

We just had the grass cut in our garden a couple of days ago. Usually, when the grass is cut, the insects don't really have a hiding place anymore and will come out to play or hang around on our exterior wall. Here's a spider with hairy, translucent legs. Stay tuned for more photos of insects from our garden.

A spider and his dinner - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Incy wincy spider
Walking along the leaf
Along came a fly
And whoosh the spider goes
Into his mouth where it belongs
And incy wincy spider
Says yummy yummy fly.

Hairy-Legged Lynx Spider (Oxyopes quadrifasciatus) - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Spidey spidey,
I hope you're a boy,
Cos it's not very girly,
To have legs so hairy,
It makes you wanna cry.

This little spider was resting on a leaf in our garden one fine morning. I've never seen a spider with legs so hairy before... (long hair at that as well). If I'm not mistaken, this spider is from the Oxyopidae family, from the Oxyopes species. It is known as Oxyopes quadritasciatus or the Lynx spider. This is a male species, since it has enlarged pedipalps (the boxing-glove like things) for transferring sperm to the female seminal receptacles during mating.  They have very long, translucent legs with spines and orange-brown stripes on their body. The name "lynx" is derived from the way they hunt ie. slowly approaching their prey and suddenly jumping on it.
